By: Jay Broderick - You know those bands that just feel good? Like, as soon as you hear them, you get that feeling, and you smile? I know you know! Every single music lover has this. And sometimes, the bands that make that feelgood music are right in our own backyard! For me, it adds a whole other layer of excitement. As is the case for Niagara's Lonely Little Kitsch.
Right around this time 2 years ago, I received an email from the band introducing themselves, and their debut single "The New Scene". When I love something, it's going to get coverage here at LoudTO. Of course we love heavy music, but we also simply love great music. Even when it's non-genre defining. And Lonely Little Kitsch's brand of alternative music fits the mold! Needless to say, I look forward to seeing emails from Kristen at From the Strait PR.
Today, LLK has released a brand new single "How Did We Get Here". As is their mantra, the opening riff of the track has such an upbeat, super catchy melody. Once the beat of the drums and bass guitar chime in, you're given the promise of another fun ride over the next 3 and a half minutes. And of course vocalist Kristen Goetz's melodious voice carries the message of second chances effortlessly through the track's story.
The hook? Kristen Goetz's vocals "How did we get here, how did we get here, how did we get heeeere" during the song's chorus, and guitarist Nolan Jodes' accompanying lyrics "Where do we gooooo" during the crescendo. If this doesn't get you singing along, then we may need to take a pulse! As the guitarist explains "Kris gave it a that really great hook and a big chorus… the guys came in and gave it a pulse…and voila!"
Lonely Little Kitsch has a penchant for writing such catchy songs, it's impossible not to tap your toes, nod your head, and just have plain fun listening. As witnessed in their music, it is without a doubt that the band is having a ton of fun doing what they do. As for "How Did We Get Here", singer Goetz says "It’s probably our most upbeat, happiest sounding tune to date.” It's definitely great fun, but Lonely Little Kitsch has had that air about them from the beginning. We'll get even more opportunity in the not too distant future as the band is finishing off their first album, with an expected release later this year.
With the addition of bassist Dave Haley, and drummer Waz Jenko, the band is now hitting music venues, and bringing their music to the masses, in a live setting. Next up, the band will take part in BitchFest 2025 on March 13 at Sneaky Dee's. Now we can finally have just as much fun watching them live.
